1. Subway Surfers (9.8/10)

Subway Surfers Review Best Mobile Games

DASH as fast as you can!  DODGE the oncoming trains! Help Jake, Tricky & Fresh escape from the grumpy Inspector and his dog.

2. Robot Unicorn Attack 2 (9.8/10)

Robot Unicorn Attack 2 Review

Robot Unicorn Attack 2 is essentially a playable metal-ballad music video with a unicorn protagonist, sporting a long flowing mane rather than a blonde head of head-bashing hair. In other words, it is exactly how a sequel should be done, and keeps everything loveable about the first, improves upon it, and adds so much more. Sure most sequels suck, but not Robot Unicorn Attack 2. It gallops flamboyantly to greatness.

3. Dr. Sweet Tooth (9.7/10)

Dr. Sweet Tooth Review

Dr. Sweet Tooth is as addictive as sweets seem to be to the crew of competitive eaters that stands in the way of the evil dentist’s plans for revenge. The story is unique and beautifully rendered in comic book style, and the square tiles and eaters are crisp, clean, and colorful. The characters are interesting, and the gameplay diverse with the various challenge levels, a tutorial, and an endless mode.

The graphics are at once delicious looking and disgusting, with the tiles of various sweets (donuts, peppermints, gummies) and the roaches and vomit. The latter really serves as a deterrent to failing, and the endless mode offers a chance to get the top score, in order to brag.

4. Kerohiro the Flag Bearer (9.6/10)

5. Shoot The Zombirds (9.5/10)

Shoot The Zombird Review

Shoot the Zombirds might be mindless fun, but even a brainless zombie can see how well developed it is in all components. It’s incredibly polished. From the body of it being fantastically rendered graphics, to the heart of it being engaging, simple game play Shoot the Zombirds in a great game. The graphic elements all work together, and even the user interface fits seamlessly. The wings flutter, the shadows glide past the windows in the backdrop, and the foreboding storm cloud roll. They even captured the look of terror on the pumpkids’ faces.

All of it together really capturing the feeling of Halloween, but not being cheesy, the game can be played year round. The gameplay, though simple in concept, requires a keen eye and strategy to make it through the rounds. Even patience is rewarded when several birds line up, allowing players to kill 2+ birds with one arrow. The grave store also offers unique power-ups and charming characters, unlockable with the coins players earn simply playing the game, liking the game on Facebook, playing the companies other games, or buying them if they so choose. The best part is that there is very little pressure to buy. The developers really seem to value provided great games than ripping players off.

Overall, Shoot the Zombirds, in not only a great addition to a Halloween game library, but any game library in general. It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s engaging.

6. Felipe Femur & Friends (9.5/10)

Felipe Femur & Friends Review

The team that brought us Present Danger, Felipe Femur: Bedtime Story, Halloween Campfire Stories, Gummy’s Thanksgiving Feast, Digital Dreidel, as well as Rock, Paper, Wizards!, ZebraFox Games, delivers with a new all encompassing app: Felipe Femur & Friends. Felipe Femur & Friends is less of a game and more of an interactive and fun hub to connect easily to the previously mentioned games, new mini games, and crafts that are hosted on the Felipe Femur website.

Overall, the user interface is excellent, easy to read, and responsive. Each character is well designed, and beautifully illustrated. Even when the chat dialogue is brought up and the chracter profile is enlarged, the lines and colors remain crisp. The app is professionally done and the art of it is perhaps the best of all. It’s interesting to see the evolution of Felipe Femur and his gang of of monster buddies from the original games to Felipe Femur and Friends, as well as through out the other games between those to that utilize the same children’s game characters. It’s nice to finally hear the character voices as well.

Functionally, the game/application is easy to use. Clicking a house brings up bios, links to crafts and activities, as well as super simple mini games for each character. The games offer little challenge which is perhaps the only minor fault in the app, thought, then again, this is designed from children, so with the characters shouting encouragement, perhaps it’s meant to be less about the challenge and more about the feel good feeling that the application brings.  There is good replay value as there is lots to do and see, and also more to come with new characters easily plugged in with their our residences and mini games.

Overall, Felipe Femur & Friends is an engaging and convenient application, with professional artwork and user interface. The app is certainly worth a download and will likely consume quite a few of players’ free hours if they give the recipes, crafts, mini games, and dialogue options a try.

7. Pinball Fantasy HD (9.5/10)

Arcade or more challenging? Pinball Fantasy HD 3D features a large set of variously themed tables which will be interesting for everyone – for both casual gamers and pro gamers, for kids and adults. Everyone will find a table to their liking. And everyone will find favorite heroes and favorite locations!

8. Necklace of Skulls (9.5/10)

Necklace of Skulls Review

Necklace of Skulls makes reading a lot more fun than reading something like The Giver or the Great Gatsby in high school. Even players who have grown to detest reading will probably enjoy this game-book, as it is more interactive, tests the users decisions, and isn’t a pop quiz on the nuances of literary fiction.

The artwork in Necklace of skulls is unique and beautiful, and does the Maya culture justice in that way. Xavier Mula, a illustrator and graphic designer from Barcelona, provides stunning visuals with his unique style, and the images and user interface really compliment the story by the British author Dave Morris, who paints with words as beautifully as Mula does with his artistic tools.  Together the two artists take their respective crafts to the highest levels and provide users with a game worth the price they ask for it. Paying up front eliminates any issue of intrusive ads, and the effort the developers put into the gamebook more than matches the cost to the user. Overall, the artwork is seamless and cohesive, and even the formatting of the words on the pages flows with the images and occasional animations.

As mentioned, the story is incredibly well written and certainly more literary than the popular Zombie High choose your own adventure games.  But for everyone except those who skipped reading The Great Gatsby and other fine books in high school, those who think a game such as Zombie High that has very little complex sentences is too high brow,  this will prove to be a positive. On top of the great story and the plenty of fun and hard choices users must make along their journey, there is a battle system and a shopping system installed, in which users can battle beasts like a serpent or choose to purchase helpful items with cacao currency. Certain options are blocked depending on purchases and previous choices, and each choice can help or hurt you, some taking your life points away. Each of the four characters also have set skills such as Etiquette that can be used in certain situations.  Stages of the game have sections and this clearly illustrates how many paths and choices the user still has to make upon replay. The battle system consists of rounds of three choices (Attack, Defend, Rest) in which attacks take health and defend blocks enemies attacks. The battle system is simple, but fast paced and satisfying, as well as nerve-racking.

The story branches off, thus providing an abundance of combinations for the life directions, granting the game a high replay value for a storybook. Plus, there are plenty of lands to explore and items to purchase. Overall, Necklace of Skulls can be played again and again with minimal diminished returns, but in the end it is a storybook.

All in all, Necklace of Skulls offers an immersive story, several characters, plenty of choices, beautiful artwork and everything one could ask for in a gamebook, including a battle system. Many don’t like paying up front for a game, but to eliminate the other choice the developers had, ads that would detract from the piece, the price for Necklace of Skulls is a bargain.

10. Sol Invictus (9.5/10)

Sol Invictus Review

Sol Invictus is based on Kyle B. Stiff’s choose-your-own-adventure book, Heavy Metal Thunder Book 2: Sol Invictus, and is the sequel to Cubus Games‘ gamebook Heavy Metal Thunder. It is available for download January 8th, 2015.

The user interface in Sol Invictus, like in Cubus Games gamebook, Necklace of Skulls, is top-notch. It is easy to read and navigate and this is essential, as following the lead character Cromulus as he navigates space and countless battles will engage users so much there’s no room for spending brain power on a confusing UI. The game is responsive and even has a sound element that goes very well with the crisp visual elements. The music is good at setting the mood, but some may find it, well, a little heavy. Thankfully, there is an option to turn off both sounds and music, so the game really caters to everyone.  There is artwork throughout the piece, which is often good, or good enough, but some of it subpar in comparison to the UI. Overall, the art lacks cohesion to some extent, with some pieces being hand drawn and in a similar vein as the source material’s cover art, and other images seeming to be heavily Photoshoped photos, such as pictures of astronauts on foreign planets. Most are good, just not cohesive. Still, this detracts very little in the end as the best pictures are those that are created in the imaginations of the players while reading the inventive story.

The story is engaging, as well. As long as players can make it through the exposition heavy opening that sets up the universe and some of the past, they’ll find the rest of the gamebook is full of fast-paced action and tough choices, as well as plenty of stylistic choices such as whether they choose to have Cromulus wield a mace, sword, spear, rifle, shotgun, or some other tool in the arsenal of other weapons, as well as personality traits and skills such as public speaking, computers, navigation, stealth, and intelligence. Plus plenty more choices. On top of the engaging story is a battle system that seems to be a signature feature of Cubus Games. The battle system utilizes a futuristic looking pair of dice, adding a more chaotic-luck aspect to the game, increasing the challenge and realism.

The replay value is quite high for a gamebook as there are seemingly countless combinations of choices with the aforementioned arsenal of weapons, personality traits, and adventure trajectories, plus the battle system and fact that collecting certain items throughout the journey and leveling certain traits unlocks choices throughout the story. The gamebook allows for up to three simultaneous saves to be played.

16. No Proper Thief (9.3/10)

No Proper Thief Review

No Proper Thief is the latest addition to the Hosted Games library, an off shoot of the Choice of Games brand of gamebooks. Written by the author of the 2014 Ahhhhhhhh-pp Apes Halloween Contest User Choice app, Halloween Campfire Stories, it follows the character Rooster as he takes part in a bank heist. Players make a series of choices that effect both  a set of stats and the outcome and direction of the story. There are several ends, including three strange insanity endings that are hidden throughout the story, and one official end that supposedly transitions into an up and coming ZebraFox Games production.

The graphics are on par with many of the Choice of Games professional artworks, as well as the rest of the ZebraFox Games apps, but employ a unique paper and grunge style. Many of the Hosted Games productions have the graphics take the back seat, but No Proper Thief does it right. The user interface is simple, but easy to read and the game is responsive.

The story of a fledging bank robber is original and engaging, and the choices throughout the game offer a real challenge to the reader. Many choices will lead to an untimely demise or prison time (checkpoints provided). Many other choices will affect the stats of personality, trust of the team, conscience, and physical wellbeing of Clyde “Rooster” Lamm. No Proper Thief seems to be a modern, exceptional take on the Bonnie and Clyde story, given the names and shady profession. The twists and turns are sure to keep readers guessing throughout the gamebook.

The replay value is boosted with the fact that there are several endings, including the three insanity endings. Achievements also add incentive to replay the game several times.

Overall, No Proper Thief is an engaging, well written story, with professional artwork and user interface. The author made an effort to give the game replay value, and it shows. The game is certainly worth a download for those who enjoy reading.

17. Final Fantasy IV (9.3/10)

Final Fantasy IV Review

FINAL FANTASY IV has finally come to the Smartphone and Tablets! The title first debuted in 1991 as the fourth installment in the FINAL FANTASY series. Wildly popular thanks to its unique characters and dramatic storylines, it went on to be ported to many different platforms. FINAL FANTASY IV was the first title to introduce the Active Time Battle (ATB) system, which has become synonymous with the series. It also saw the introduction of the Augment system, which enabled the transfer of abilities from other characters and gave players an edge in battles. This iconic title is packed with many other amazing features.

18. Present Danger (9.3/10)

Present Danger

The team that brought us the 2014 Ahhhhhhhh-pp Apes Halloween Contest User Choice winning app, Halloween Campfire Stories, as well as Rock, Paper, Wizards!, ZebraFox Games, delivers with a new Christmas themed app: Present Danger. Present Danger brings a little strategy and a bit of chance to the table this time around. Players open a potentially endless string of presents, each of which contains either an item or an enemy. Items can be both good and bad, and each offers a plus or minus to the three stats (HP, ATK, DEF) that players must maintain and grow in order to help defeat monsters, including the fearsome Krampus.

Overall, the user interface is festive, easy to read, and responsive. There are several cleaver weapons including a snow globe hammer, egg noggin’ hammer, Christmas tree shaped sword, and an igloo shield. Old friends from the Campfire Stories app also show up as plushies including Felipe and the werewolf. The interface is crisp as is the game play and the items are fun to see, as are the enemies.

The replay value is quite high given the random factor of the game. It remains exciting to see what is going to be in that next present. It is also nice to have a leader board as it makes replaying for a high score enjoyable and something to strive for. Finally, the random spawning of the creepy Krampus keeps players on the edge of their seats.

Overall, Present Danger is an engaging holiday game, with professional artwork and user interface. The app is certainly worth a download and will likely consume quite a few of players’ free hours this Christmas season.

19. Muertitos (9.3/10)

Muertitos Review

Muertitos is an original fun puzzle game that uses the match 3 mechanic in a new way. If you love puzzles and crazy mexican traditions, Muertitos is the game for you. Additionally, Muertitos has an amazing art inherited from Mexican culture, so it is flashy and colorful. Also, if you are not a fan of Día de los Muertos, the game has another set of characters just for you and more.

20. Moose & Zebra Kids Magazine (9.3/10)

Moose & Zebra Kids Magazine App Review

Once Moose & Zebra Kids Magazine is downloaded and opened, a world of fun is opened for kids. Mind you, the bigger the window into that world (large tablet over 4″ phone) the better. The Magazine offers a splattering of interesting facts about African animals in the first free issue, and Sweden and Dinosaurs in the purchasable issues. The free African issue offers an array of fun mini-games. These games range from coloring tasks, to shape placement, to item drag and drop, to logic puzzles. Overall, the magazine is well worth the time needed to install the free download, and the expansion issues are well worth the $1.99 asking price, especially if you consider many children’s books sell for more than $10. The Moose & Zebra Kids Magazine is interactive and able to be played again and again with a fun dress up game at the end and a great, easy-to-navigate menu that allows users to play any mini-game as much as they desire. In-app purchases are protected with arithmetic equations that older children will be able to solve, so be wary of that, but for the target audience, this should protect them enough, and allows for an ad free experience.  Issues seem only to arise in the use of smaller devices like 4″ android phones and iPhones, as controls can sometimes seem unresponsive. Other than this, Moose & Zebra Kids Magazine provides beautiful, animated graphics and a crisp user interface, a fluid interactive component, and good replay value with new issues and a wide variety of mini-games.

27. Final Fantasy III (9.3/10)

Final Fantasy 3 Review

First released in 1990, FINAL FANTASY III was the first title in the FINAL FANTASY series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix’s classic RPG saga was here to stay. The full 3D remake released in 2006 duplicated the original’s success, selling over a million copies worldwide. FINAL FANTASY III was a hallmark of innovation for the entire series, from the job system that lets characters change classes at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures such as Shiva and Bahamut. When darkness falls and the land is robbed of light, four youths are chosen by the crystals to set forth on a journey to save the world.

29. Worldquiz – the 3D Geography Challenge (9.3/10)

Worldquiz - the 3D Geography Challenge Review

Don’t let the images of Worldquiz – the 3D Geography Challenge keep you from downloading the app. Unlike what the images might lead one to believe, the app is not flat like mankind once thought the world was, but rather a beautifully rendered 3D globe.

The graphics in Worldquiz – the 3D Geography Challenge are top notch and very professional, with a fully rendered, illuminated earth, complete with deserts and tropics, as well as the boarders implemented by humans. The user interface around the globe compliments it, and is also quite professional. And moving about it is fluid, as is zooming in.

The game is really a valuable learning tool, as many players will be surprise in how little they really know about the world they live on, and the where countries and cities are located within it.  The app scores players on how close they are to the actual located of the prompted location, and even maps a line from the guess to the actual location. On top of this, the game provides plenty of interesting facts (sourced from Wikipedia) and provides links which players can follow to learn more. With multiple modes of play, including practice, time attack and normal, as well as multiple difficulty levels and plenty of new places to learn about, there is quite a lot to do in Worldquiz – the 3D Geography Challenge. Plus with numerous achievements, as well as local and global high score leaderboards, there is also a great amount of replay value in the app.

Overall, there’s a world of knowledge to be learned in Worldquiz – the 3D Geography Challenge, so those who want to brush up on their geography, practice in an engaging, visual way for a test, or simply learn about the world on which the live, will not be disappointed when trying the app.

30. Iron Snout (9.3/10)

Iron Snout Review

It’s the little piggy’s turn to huff and puff and blow his enemies away with an arsenal of attack moves, including a fast punch, uppercut, jump, kick, split kick, flip, duck, slam, catch, grab and throw.

The graphics in Iron Snout offer an interesting contrast to the violent theme. Cartoon and adorable, the graphics lighten the otherwise hyper violent game play and make it a lighthearted, causal source of fun. The characters, both pig and wolves, respond perfectly, and a lot of work seems to have gone into making sure the movements appear fluid. There is a stylistic uniqueness to the characters and with action bubbles exclaiming things like BLAM and POW there is a nod to comics and perhaps even the classic Batman TV show.

Iron Snout simple appearance packs quite a punch. The number of attack moves is impressive, as is the variety of wolves that seek to kill the pig. Weapons can be picked up or caught mid air and thrown back at the hordes of enemies with a great sense of satisfaction for the player. The game takes the stationary, directional fighter and makes it near perfect. It’s easy to pick up but difficult to master, requiring quick reflexes and a sense of strategy, which is a feature that many games strive to achieve but never do. Given that the game is simple, but engaging, there is a good amount of replay value, especially with the leaderboards.

All in all, Iron Snout offers players a ironclad source of causal fun and is certainly worth the download.

32. CHAOS RINGS Ω (9.2/10)

CHAOS RINGS Ω Review

CHAOS RINGS Ω is a welcome addition the CHAOS RINGS series from the masters of RPGs Square Enix. The game is an immersive gaming experience offering hundreds of hours of game play, with painstakingly drawn exportable areas, a fascinating cast of characters and monsters, and a captivating story.

CHAOS RINGS Ω stands alone as a great game and is a wonderful additon to the CHAOS RINGS series, with an equally interesting story. The graphics are a perfect mix of both 3D and 2D—the game is beautifully rendered, from the detailed backgrounds, to the character models, to the enemies, to the portraits, to the user interface.

The game play is as interesting as the graphics. With a variety of activities, CHAOS RINGS Ω remains engaging throughout. From turn based fighting, with the classic HP and MP bars, critical strike chances, special abilities, and even unique victory poses and dances, to exploration, the game builds a complete, interactive digital world.

The story and game play are enjoyable enough to warrant playing the game again and again. Overall, CHAOS RINGS Ω is worth the money if you care to spend it, and while not exactly an investment, it’s fun enough to invest many hours into.

34. Triple Town (9.2/10)

Triple Town Review

Triple Town is an original puzzle game in which you try to grow the greatest possible city. The larger the city you build, the more points you score. You build your city by matching three or more game-pieces: combine three grasses to make a bush, three bushes to make a tree… until you’ve filled the board with houses, cathedrals and castles. Along the way, you’ll have to outwit giant bears who will try to block your progress. How large can you grow your dream city before the board fills and the game ends?

UNLIMITED TURNS: This game is free, but we need to earn a living somehow. So eventually, after playing for a while, you will run out of turns and will need to wait for them to refresh over time, or you can buy more turns with the free coins you earn in the game. OR, if you love the game and would like to support small independent game developers like us, you can purchase unlimited turns forever for a one-time fee. If you do, you can use them on any compatible Android device you own (that supports Google Play.) Just install the game on your other Android devices and select “restore unlimited turns” in the game’s options menu.

35. République (9.2/10)

République App Review

République! Developed over five years by industry veterans (Metal Gear Solid, Halo, F.E.A.R.), RÉPUBLIQUE is a thrilling and topical stealth-action game that explores the perils of government surveillance in the Internet Age. You receive a call from Hope, a woman trapped inside a mysterious totalitarian state. By hacking into the nation’s elaborate surveillance network and taking control, you guide Hope through a web of danger and deception across five thrilling episodes.

36. Terra Battle (9.2/10)

Terra Battle Review

Strategy lovers unite! Terra Battle allows players to utilizes strategy on its grid battlegrounds, with team alignment, skilled abilities, magic, different ranges of attack, weapons, target prioritizing, ability chaining, and so on. On top of this, players can recruit and level new warriors in taverns, form powerful groups, read mail to gain direction in the game, and much more. The music and sound effects are also top-notch and facilitate an immersive gaming experience.

While the graphics of the grid battlefield are basic, the painstakingly created characters, spell effects, and monsters add the artistic touch needed to appeal to the eyes. The backgrounds are also beautiful, and the user interface is clean and crisp. However, the only real animations, are the shaking and disintegration of defeated monsters, and the arrival of a character on screen, in which the character shakes and grows then recedes and fades.

Terra Battle promises to add new impressive content with certain numbers of downloads, including new music from Nobuo Uematsu at 100,000 downloads, a new character at 200,000 downloads by Hideo Minaba, then at 300,000 another new character, this time by Nakaba Suzuki, then one by Hitoshi Yoneda at 400,000, and even more characters at 500,000 by Naoto Oshima and Manabu Kusunoki, followed by a final new character by Kimihiko Fujisaka, then various new online modes at 700,000, a gorgeous looking art book at 800,000, free to download Terra Battle music at 900,000, and at 1,000,000 downloads a live Terra Battle concert will be performed (in Japan); following this a boss monster after another hundred-thousand downloads, followed by more new music, a strategy book, and a figurine, a new scenario, then for you console lovers a new version of the game at two million downloads. A lot of bigger named game developers utilize similar plans of “rewards” for downloads, but keep it under wraps. So whether you feel cheated with this marketing ploy, or simply excited for more content that many would argue belonged in the original release, rest assured there will be attention paid to updates and new features to keep the game interesting.

Overall, Terra Battle is well worth downloading for strategy buffs at least. After all, it is free. And if nothing else—if you end up hating it—at least you can feel good knowing that you helped increase the total downloads, and thus helped fans unlock new features.

38. Gummy’s Thanksgiving Feast (9.2/10)

Gummy's Thanksgiving Feast

From the developers of Felipe Femur and our User’s Choice Halloween contest winning app, Halloween Campfire Stories, comes a new Thanksgiving themed app. ZebraFox Games deliver another appetizing app, stuffed with delectable looking food, including turkey drumsticks, cranberry sauce, ham, pumpkin pie, and of course slippery green beans.

The game features a newly designed Gummy the toothless werewolf, a fan favorite from the original Felipe Femur app as well as from Halloween Campfire Stories app where he thrilled us with his tale of a cursed can opener. The developers seem to love tying all their games together, and this game is no exception. In fact, it goes above and beyond, utilizing not only the establish character of Gummy the werewolf, but also the evil dentist, Dr. Sweet Tooth. In the description of this one is the note about Gummy recovering from his ordeal with the evil Dr. Sweet Tooth, another of the companies games, and perhaps their most ambitious venture. The developers are essentially creating a ZebraFox  Games universe, and we at App Apes love it! But the main point  here is that Gummy appears cleaned up and lighter, and with his large appetite intact. The food is delicious looking, and the UI is beautifully rendered.

The game play is simple but challenging, and with two  modes of play, plus a sort of food popping mini-game on the title screen, the game offers a cornucopia of fun. The main mode of play, Full Course, offers randomly generated courses and randomly selected prompted foods, so it’s always a mystery and a challenge. Vegetarians aren’t fully left out of this game, as with the second mode of play, Selective Eater, only green beans are eaten, and with only five seconds to clear each course it offers a unique challenge for a what-a-mole type game.

The randomization, and variety of game play increase the replay value significantly, and with the future addition of leadership boards, when the game has a bigger player base, promises to make the fun last even longer with the ability to challenge friends.

Overall, Gummy’s Thanksgiving Feast is a feast for the eyes, and a bounty of fun. Download for the Thanksgiving season, and use it anytime thereafter to satisfy your craving for fun.

45. Werewolf Tycoon (9/10)

Werewolf Tycoon Review

Werewolf Tycoon is a uniquely fun, stealth eating game.

The graphics in Werewolf tycoon are great. There is an intentional pixilation to the user Interface (UI), characters, and environments, that bring a full feeling of nostalgia. As everything is done in the same style, the graphics are cohesive throughout–nothing takes the player out of the immersive game. The animations are fluid, such as when the werewolf devours an civilian, solider, reporter, or alien, or leaps from its hiding spot in the park bush. The environment is beautifully rendered, and the intentional pixilation adds a lot to the game. In this case, less (pixels) is truly more. Ads are also kept to the menu pages, so they do not interrupt game play or detract from the graphics.

As for the game play, it is simple to play but difficult to master. It requires strategy, as players must eat at least one victim each night so as to not starve, but also avoid getting too much attention. A single reporter snapping a photo and escaping and the army is called in, meaning it’s lights out for Mr. werewolf. Overall, Werewolf Tycoon allows players to become the big bad wolf of legend, admire what small eyes the citizens have from hiding, and swallow them whole when the cameras aren’t around.

Perhaps the only thing really off about Werewolf Tycoon is its title. it makes sense as a tycoon can mean someone of great power, and werewolves are traditionally human beings who are cursed. However, using Tycoon often makes players think of games like Roller Coaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon, which will damage the store star rating if people go in expecting something customizable and vast, rather than a clean, responsive, endless score climber. Other than this, the game runs the risk of becoming a little repetitive, but it does offer fun and challenging achievements and a score board, so this isn’t a huge issue.

All in all, Werewolf Tycoon is a fun addition to any game library, especially those with an affinity for the horror genre.

46. The Boxtrolls: Slide ‘N’ Sneak (9/10)

The Boxtrolls: Slide ‘N’ Sneak Review

The Boxtrolls: Slide ‘N’ Sneak is a neatly boxed up addition to the Boxtroll franchise, that can be unpack for hours of fun.

The Boxtrolls: Slide ‘N’ Sneak employs a great use of lighting and shadows with foreground and several layers of background objects successfully creating the illusion of depth in the app. The streetlights light up the characters being played, and shadowy areas turn the characters into a mere silhouette. On top of this, every aspect of the stylized graphics is well done, crisp, and serves the overall sneaky atmosphere of the app.

The game play in The Boxtrolls: Slide ‘N’ Sneak is nothing novel, but it does have a fun slide feature for traveling downhill at high speeds. Collecting coins and avoiding obstacles and enemies is fun, and at times quite engaging. The only real issue with the game play is that the load times can feel a bit long. Sometimes the players is led to wonder if the game froze, as if a boxtroll threw a wrench in the loading gears. Other than this the game is largely immersive and enjoyable to play. An enchanting soundtrack and apt sound effects lend themselves to the immersive experience, as well. For the most part it takes a long time for the game to grow boring and many hours can be put into completely levels and completing them with good scores.

Overall, The Boxtrolls: Slide ‘N’ Sneak is worth downloading, and is fun to play, especially for children. The app is a good addition to the franchise and an interactive way to meet the characters of the new movie The Boxtrolls.

52. Agent Awesome (9/10)

Agent Awesome Review

Agent Awesome has an awesome combination of strategy, beautiful graphics, comedy, and violence.

Starting with a tutorial, featuring a cocky, self-proclaimed greatest agent, players laugh and cringe along with the woman giving him pointers, as Agent Awesome might more accurately be called Agent Arrogant. It works for him though, as well as for the comedic tone of the game. The dialogue alone is enough to keep the player’s interest, as it will keep them laughing, but the game offers so much more than that, including a dozen fun and challenging levels, upgradable weapons, references to famous other secret agents, movie, and game characters such as Pac-man Sam Fisher and what looks like Snake playing billiards, as well as “explosions, bullets, action, murder and koalas.” For those non-violent types, there is the stealth option in which guards do not need to be killed, just avoided. There are times when the controls get a little confusing or seemingly unresponsive, but all in all, it’s a very fun experience. The exception of this is the frequent pop up ads that effect the experience quite negatively. Certainly, the developers need to eat and make money with ads, but so many advertisements, too frequently will certainly drive many players away.

The graphics are colorful, often stunning, and cohesive. Even the animations follow the theme perfectly. With the big heads, the comedy of the dialogue is made visual, and the levels are diverse and interesting as are the cast of enemies. With multiple play styles, plenty of options, weapons, and paths to take, the Agent Awesome is easily played again and again. Plus who could get tired of seeing a Kombat Koala?

Overall, Agent Awesome is just that: awesome. It offers an immersive experience with engaging game play and is pleasing to the eyes. Plus, it’ll make most every player laugh.

You must tap, swipe, double tap, Tap n Hold, and many other gestures to perform the ultimate cell surgery, before the virus spreads any further!

54. Spooklands (9/10)

Spookland Review

With the attack and means of locomotion being one in the same, there is a real unique challenge to Spooklands. It’s a simple game, but provides a big challenge, and there’s just the right amount of variation, including several levels, characters, and unlockable weapons. The issue with Spooklands arises once the subject is cornered and loses a life, as there is a greatly increased chance the player will lose the other two lives in short order, since they respawn in the same place. The option to choose where to spawn would be nice.

The graphics are also unique, and the only issues with the ascetics are that the enemies have more character than the several main characters do, including the ax wielding native, the sneaker lover, and the necromancer; and that some of the projectiles clash with an otherwise perfect, but stylized image.

Finally, as simple as the game is, it does not get old quickly. It’s challenging, engaging, and the graphics captivate.

55. Pinball Planet (9/10)

Pinball Planet Review

Pinball Planet provides worlds of pinball fun for a small price tag.

The graphics in Pinball Planet are top-notch 3D, and themed incredibly well for each of the three pinball boards available for play. There is a great level of detail in each pinball table, and not a single object in the game seems to go against the Halloween, Pirate, or Miner themes, including the world map that players can spin around to pick an island (pinball table) to play. Even the balls themselves are themed,  such as cannonballs for the pirate table and eyeballs for the Halloween table. The sounds effects and music add greatly to the game as well, and match the graphics in terms of quality. The animations on each level are well done. Overall the graphics are a strong component to the game.

The pinball tables are unique and quite fun to play on, often challenging, with only a few minor issues that seem to slow down gameplay significantly with the placement of obstacles and bumpers, namely on the Pirate table. Each table has fun features that help or hurt the player, including jumping spiders, tombstones, séance candles, bats, rum bottles, cutlasses, a spitting skull, and much more. The game also gives players collectible stars that they can spend on unlocking new game boards (Halloween, Miner, Pirate), or on temporary boosts, such as increased starting points or extras balls, to help them obtain a high score. Stars are earned after a certain number of points are collected on each play through, and for completing a series of interesting challenges. The game has a good pace, and earning stars, completing achievements, and striving for a top score keeps the player’s interest for a long while. Long enough to justify the $2.99 price tag of the game, at the very least.

Overall, Pinball Planet offers unique pinball tables and challenges that will hold player’s attention, and is certainly worth a download and the upfront price.

58. Mold on Pizza (9/10)

Mold On Pizza

A combo of a tower defense’s (or rather tower offense) numbers, an animated cartoon’s cuteness, and a game of tug of war, Mold on Pizza is a deliciously fun game for Android. Cute and challenging, the game ought to appeal to a wide range of players.

Players control hordes of different types of molds and wage battle against an army of preservatives in this clever take on the side scrolling battle app. The story is simply but smart in its take on biology the graphics are crisp and beautifully rendered. There is a lot going on, the battle field often looking like a clown fiesta, but the game does a good job of keeping sides and action clear with its crisp graphics. The colors are beautiful, and the health bars, thought bubbles, and expressive characters all give clues as to how the battle is faring.

The controls are straight forward but provide enough actions to have to employ strategy  while playing, and are the perfect combination of challenging a intuitive, which makes for a fun mobile game. There are plenty of different enemies, allies, bosses, and levels to keep players interested. While the levels are short, there are plenty to keep players coming back again and again. On top of this achievements, rankings and PvP keep the replay value high. Mini games add variety and the different bosses all have different skill sets that make it a challenge to figure out.

Overall, Mold on Pizza is well worth the $1.99 cost to download. It provides hours of fun, plenty to do, and a cute interface. In-app purchases are available, which seems a little out of place in a game with an upfront cost, but the in-app purchases are not required to succeed. For those into tower defense like strategy games, Mold on Pizza will satisfy the craving, and for less than the cost of a slice of pizza. This one you can enjoy again and again; whenever you’re hungry for some fun.

59. Pokemon Go (9/10)

PokemonGO Review

Pokemon Go is more than a game at this point. It’s a phenomenon. The iOS and Android app is bringing small businesses more customers than they’ve ever seen, bringing joy to fellow trainers as they realize all the cars lined up at the post office at 10:00 pm are other trainers battling the gym leader, and causing a healthy epidemic of sore legs. The game actively promotes physical activity and exploration as trainers (players) must travel in the real world to uncover various Pokemon and find Poke Stops and Gyms. Landmarks never seen by many are now being enjoyed as they come to represent a Poke Stop in the digital world, a place where trainers can collect free poke-balls and eggs for incubating. So while the game does offer in-app purchases, they are certainly not required to enjoy the game, and many casual players will never find themselves spending even a dollar on the game, which in itself will bring many hours of enjoyment.

Visually, the game is cohesive. There is a small clash with the digital graphics and the photos of real landmarks, but this is largely unavoidable. The Pokemon are cartoonish, which maintains the spirit of the ever popular TV series Pokemon. The game gives players the option of utilizing their mobile devices camera to place the Pokemon into the real world with an augmented reality. The gameplay is where Pokemon Go is perhaps the most lacking. It’s grows repetitive, but with the large number of Pokemon to catch and level and then evolve the replay value is not harmed much. There have been a large number of complains about server issues, forced closes on the app, freezing, various bugs, and battery life zapping. The company behind Pokemon Go assures the player base they are working on these issues, which are understandable with the huge number of downloads. One final issue with the game is a real lack of customization in the character creation. It’s hardly better than giving players a simple choice between male and female as they can really only change small details on the shoes, hat, sweatshirt, and backpack.

Overall, Pokemon Go is well worth the download and even the likely frustration of running into bugs and server issues and an occasional dead battery. After all, the game offers more than just causal entertainment. It provides motivation to get active and promotes a sense of community with a shared interest and talking point.

60. Candy Crush Saga (9/10)

Candy Crush Saga Review

Puzzle enthusiasts can satisfy their craving for fun with Candy Crush Saga, an experience as full as the term Saga implies.

Candy Crush Saga eases players in slowly, taking several levels to instruct on the features of the game, leading to a smooth gaming experience, and thus avoids ever feeling cluttered or overwhelming. The game also gives hints throughout when the player appears stumped, with pulsing candy serving as an indicator of a possible move. Furthermore, Candy Crush Saga utilizes a set number of moves versus a stressful timer, meaning that players can take their time and play moves out, allowing for the use of strategy. With the arsenal of possible moves, such as 3+ in a row, T shapes, and other special candy pieces, the game play is diverse and never dull. A great soundtrack and well-woven sound effects really do add to the experience and never distract. To top all this off, the Candy Crush Saga game board component for level selection adds a competitive aspect to the game, in which players can compete against friends adding a lot to both game play and replay value.

Stylized graphics, including cardboard cutout like guides, realistic, crunchable interactive buttons, and delectable looking sweets set Candy Crush Saga on the highest tier of mobile game apps in terms of graphics, just as the game play does for its respective category. For matching puzzle games, Candy Crush Saga sits with the best of them.

61. Retry (9/10)

Retry Review

From the guys sitting in the room next to the guys who made Angry Birds, comes RETRY – a game so hard, so addictive, so old skool that you’ll think you’ve stepped into an 8-bit time machine and gone back to 1986. Totally rad! You’re in the cockpit of a smoking, loop-the-looping, out of control, 8-bit jalopy of an airplane. Grab hold of the yoke, ace. It’s going to take raw skill and white-knuckle stunts to get through this one. Enter the danger zone! Fly through treacherous obstacles, and earn stars to unlock new worlds. Whether it’s the verdant sloping hills of Summer or the time-bending passages of the Future, these levels are out to do one thing: stop you. Sorry, chief. But don’t cry, you can always RETRY.

63. Rock, Paper, Wizards! (9/10)

Rock, Paper, Wizards! Review

Rock, Paper, Wizards! isn’t just a bunch of hocus pocus, it actually delivers on its promise of bringing the magic to the classic game of rock, paper, scissors.

Whether to decide a disagreement or to have fun on the playground, we’ve all played rock, paper, scissors, but never like this. Rock, Paper, Wizards! provides players with crisp graphics coated in a construction paper texture that is used throughout the game seamlessly. The user interface is neat, uncluttered, easy to understand, and ads are limited to one full page ad every so often. The game graphics are not burdened by ugly ads at the bottom or top that distract in many games, and the one pop up ad is hardly intrusive, popping up only after a player loses, which could potentially be a very long time. The cast of characters are cute, and often humorous looking, with funny voices and names to match, and the main character, Oscar Burlin has surprising depth for what little players get to know about him via the short animation in the Official Video (shown below) and in game with lines like, “Got to keep flexing.” This vulnerability and underdog status make the character immediately likable. Plus that mustache! The same goes for the enemies, which we at App Apes can see on merchandise should this game get the attention it deserves.

The game play itself is simple to learn but hard to master, for after round five, the time players are allowed to choose a counter to the CPU chosen sign (rock, paper, or scissors) decreases to a second from its three seconds in rounds one through five. Players are given only five ticks of health and can only regain health by defeating a randomly generated Goblin King and looting his treasure chest. Even then, players only earn back one tick of health. The pacing is quick enough to keep players on their toes and also keep boredom from creeping in, and leader boards as well as achievements give players incentive to keep try for a top score.

Overall, Rock, Paper, Wizards! is a simple and fun game with a great challenge, and even better graphics and characters. It is certainly worth a download, as it’s free with limited ads (a rarity) and is great for all ages.

64. Pop! Ilumbo (9/10)

Pop! Ilumbo Review

Pop! Ilumbo (ポップ!Ilumbo, 팝! Ilumbo) is as unusual as its name suggests, with a beautifully rendered user interface, puzzles, and navigation.

The user interface in Pop! Ilumbo is fluid, utilizing a scroll feature rather than a multiple page menu alternative. Holding one’s finger over a desired puzzle will open up two selectable versions of the puzzle, meaning the navigation is compact but also easy to understand. The puzzle themselves consist of crisply draw objects and vibrant colors, making this game into a form of eye candy. Unlike real candy, though, Pop! Ilumbo has substance as the game play is just as good as the beautiful graphics.

The game play is both pleasant to witness and to play. It’s engaging and challenging, and players will easily feel a sense of satisfaction upon completing the puzzles. There are three types of puzzles, each of which take brain power to figure out. Perhaps the most fun of the three types of puzzles in the drag an connect type, which is similar in style to the popular Flow Free, but with a far more pretty interface. Another type plays a bit like Sudoku, but with a four by four grid and colors rather than numbers. the final type often proves to be the most challenging, as players must snake through different numbered checkpoints, in ascending order, and fill the entire grid. Each puzzle type takes a little time to figure out, but once they are understood, they serve as a great source of fun. Players may take their own pictures with the app, as well, and the replay value is fairly solid given it is a casual puzzler.

Finally, it is worth noting that the developers offer this game for free and it does not contain ads. It’s a rarity to find a game that is both free to download and ad free, and this is a special gem of a puzzler.

69. CubiColor (9/10)

CubiColor Review

If Sodoku and a Rubik’s Cube had a digital child with the best aspects of them both, that child would be CubiColor. So, if either of those classic forms of entertainment intrigues you, CubiColor is sure to please as well.

With incredibly crisp and pleasing graphics, CubiColor shows that simplicity can be done very well. As simple as it may appear, though, CubiColor offers engaging, fun game play that promises to provide hours of fun just as Sudoku has, having provided an inspiration to the modern gameplay of this app. The only thing not straightforward comes up when trying to undo a move. With the large cube being spun and twirled, it’s easy to forget what blocks were place by the user; and the game could perhaps benefit from a more defined highlight feature for placed cubes. But in the end this serves as a mental exercise in memory. It’s all how you look at it, and if this game teaches you anything, it’s how to look at something from multiple angles.

Along with the basics, CubiColor has a multiplayer option and achievements, which always increases the replay value.

We’d like to embrace simplicity with this review, as CubiColor has embraced and mastered minimalism with its game play, and end by saying that the app is definitely worth downloading and will certainly provide hours of entertainment.

72. CHAOS RINGS II (9/10)

CHAOS RINGS II ReviewCHAOS RINGS II is an immersive gaming experience offering hundreds of hours of game play, with painstakingly drawn exportable areas, a fascinating cast of characters and monsters, and a captivating story.

CHAOS RINGS II exceeds its predecessor in every aspect, including the price, which is double Chaos Rings at $15.99 and here in lies the greatest issue. Other than this, every aspect is better—the game is beautifully rendered, from the detailed backgrounds, to the character models, to the enemies, to the portraits, to the user interface

The game play is as captivating as the graphics. With a variety of activities, Chaos rings remains engaging throughout. From turn based fighting, with the classic HP and MP bars, critical strike chances, special abilities, and even unique victory poses and dances, to exploration, the game builds a complete, interactive digital world.

The story and game play are enjoyable enough to warrant playing the game again and again. Overall, CHAOS RINGS II is worth the money if you care to spend it, and while not exactly an investment, it’s fun enough to invest many hours into.
