TimberBrother Hippo, or as it’s called on the title screen, Hippo Dash, is a decently rendered, frustrating exercise in how many pop up ads and requests for personal information one has to click out of before wanting to explode like one of the precariously nested bomb obstacles in the game. Even this is more engaging than the two direction controls. Seeing as the timer ensures that the player is tapping left and right like a maniac, leaving them open for myriad mistakes, the game play for each round is incredible short, and while this is not necessarily a problem itself, it become a big one when coupled with both a full page ad and a request for personal information after each round.

The posterized graphics are good, not great, and the pink hippo’s movements are clunky as is the positioning of the subject in relation to the backdrop. It feels almost as if there is a delay with the hippo, or at very least a detachment from the tree branches that the hippo is supposed to be occupying, assuming that the hippo is suppose to be touching, in order to grab the fruit and detonate the bombs.

The game quickly dissolves into an annoyance, and does not leave the player wanting more. In fact, it feels more like an alpha version of a money grab. With work the game could be great, very challenging, but as is, the player gets more face time with other games via ads than they do with the game they’re supposed to be enjoying.
